First Year Soccer St Ciarans 3-3 St Mary’s Drogheda
Our first year team kicked off their campaign today on home soil against a strong St Mary’s Drogheda side. In typical January weather, it was a frosty start for both sides sharing possession. Before half time St Ciarans found the breakthrough with an excellent finish from Elliot Flood Norton.
St Mary’s started stronger at the restart and found an equaliser leaving the sides level at 1-1. Titas Vaitkunas then struck home to lead 2-1 but St Mary’s replied not long after to level proceedings again. With 15 left of play, Conor Kearney rattled the net through a superb free kick. St Mary’s again replied to leave it at 3-3. It was fantastic entertaining game in which both sides can take great pride from. A special mention to Ben Smith who stepped into goals late on for the injured Joseph Kirk. Both players pulled off great saves. On the road next Wednesday away to Dunboyne is the next stop for our first year team. Well done to all the players
