St Ciarán's CS 2-1 Boyne CS, Trim
Massive congratulations to our 1st year soccer team after completing a remarkable comeback win against a strong and determined Boyne CS outfit in an all-Meath clash played at Kentstown on Thursday morning . Two goals in a frantic final 7 minutes swung the tie in the Kells schools' favour much to the delight of their large contingent of supporters.
Both teams started conservatively with chances few and far between in the opening period with both defences on top. However, It was the Trim school that managed to break the deadlock just before the break after a free kick was well saved from Shay Fagan only for an alert Trim forward to drive home the rebound to give them a slim lead at half time.
After the lads dusted themselves down at half time, the game opened up with some excellent play on display from both sides. As the game entered the final 10 minutes, the Kells side pushed hard for an equaliser and were rewarded when Senan Arkins expertly looped the ball into the back of the Trim net from the edge of the box after some neat build up play. While extra time looked likely, a further twist was in store when Harry Harte delivered an inch perfect free kick for Cillian Madden to poke the ball home from close range.
The final whistle blew moments later much to the delight of the players and their supporters. Commiserations to Boyne CS on what was an even and highly competitive contest played in a sporting manner throughout. Next up for our lads, is a Leinster quarter final which will be played over the coming weeks.
