First Year German students learned a lot about German Easter traditions from German TY students Markus and Moritz. They explained how Ostern (Easter) is a huge festival in Germany, to rival Christmas and the importance of such traditions as the Osterbaum (Easter Tree) where trees outside your house are decorated in brightly painted eggs. The students demonstrated how to clean the egg and decorate it before you thread a ribbon through to hang on your tree. Based on this demo, students created their own decorated eggs at home and hung them on an Easter tree in the classroom. Alicja Majzel won a special prize of a chocolate egg for her wonderful creation! Gratuliere! (Congratulations!)The importance of the Ostereiersuche (Easter Egg hunt) was also explained to the First Years who then went exploring the great outdoors for chocolate eggs hidden by the Osterhase (Easter bunny) in the school grounds. Unfortunately, the birds were quicker and many eggs disappeared as magically as they had appeared(!!) Frohe Ostern (Happy Easter!)
